DIY :: Gold Bar Cart (Ikea Hack)

written by Natalie Ho 2013.11.05

I’ve always wanted a bar cart to hold all the libation for our guests. The condo was too crowded to fit a bar cart. I was super excited that we found just the perfect nook for a bar cart in the new home. Though I now had the perfect spot for a party cart, I was faced with two challenges. First, finding something that was slim enough for the ‘nook’ and second, I wasn’t looking to spend a few hundreds of dollars. After doing some research online and following the footsteps of other expert DIY-ers (love this and this option), I decided to tackle a DIY Gold Bar Cart/Ikea hack.

I must say, $40 got me a long way and I am absolutely 100% satisfied with my DIY Gold Bar Cart, Ikea makeover.

How do you organize your wine and spirits? I’m curious to know, please share by commenting below!

What you will need:
  • Ikea VITTSJO Laptop table
  • Gold Spray Paint (I used Krylon Dual in Metallic Gold)
  • Marble Contact Paper (optional)

I also decided to cover the ply wood insert with marble print contact paper. I purchased a whole roll for $1 from the local dollar store! I basically traced the shape of the insert, and then cut the contact paper to size and peeled the contact marble sheet from its backing and carefully adhered to the insert. Use something flat, like a ruler to take out any air bubbles.

I assembled my bar cart with my favourite champagnes and spirits. I also added fun accessories like the spiral printed straws and the gold “H” letter. Don’t be afraid to have fun with it!  For the upcoming holiday season, I plan on adding festive decor and accessories, I can’t wait! It is going to become the party of the house, literally 😉

I hope you liked this DIY project and that it has inspired you to create something of your own!

[…] This is a small makeover, but it makes a big impact. This bar cart once had a simple glass shelf (this is an IKEA desk, by the way), and now it has a sophisticated marble one. I love that the small shelf is marble, with the top remaining glass, because you get to see this little gem underneath the bottles and decor above. [Via My Little Secrets] […]
