Lifestyle :: Framed Photos Made Easy with Fujifilm X-T100

written by Natalie Ho 2018.08.15

As a blogger, the ability to tell a captivating visual story is probably one of the most important aspects of my work. Whether I’m sharing step by step instructions for a DIY project, before and afters of my latest home renovation, or documenting my recent travels, photography is key. I’m often asked where I find ideas for my next projects, the truth is, inspiration can come from any place, any time, many times when you least expect it. That’s why I like to take my camera everywhere I go because I don’t want to miss an opportunity to capture an image that is frame-worthy!

I started my self-taught photography journey on a DSLR camera. Over the years, I’ve become quite familiar with mine. These cameras have an advantage in lens selection and an optical view finder, but I find them quite complex to use and too heavy for everyday photography. On the flip side, phone cameras offer maximum convenience, but there are plenty of limitations when it comes to quality of images captured (especially when you’re looking to print them in large formats). So what are the alternatives?!

I was recently introduced to the FUJIFILM X-T100 mirrorless digital camera and I must say I’m smitten! This retro-styled (also comes in three different colour options), lightweight camera is packed with loads of features yet easy to operate making it a great choice for bloggers and creatives who are capturing their ideas and inspiration on the go.

Keep reading for your chance to win a camera of your own!

As a DIY enthusiast, I love integrating my own photography in various projects. It’s so rewarding to see your own work displayed in physical format and plus, can add a unique, personal touch to your own home (think gallery wall or a statement framed piece above the bar cart).

I always prefer to have my photos professionally printed with a custom matte but mounted at home on my own with a store-bought frame of my liking. This combination offers the best looking option without breaking the bank. When you get your prints enlarged, you want to make sure the quality is top notch! The FUJIFILM X-T100 has a 24-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor that works excellent even in low-light situations, which means it can produce essentially 24 million effective pixels in an image. You can be certain that the photos taken with this device will be sharp and crisp, and ready for printing! This camera also offers 11 Film Simulation Modes which replicate the look of classic film. These allow you to have maximum shooting, with minimal post processing and can also be used on video.

I mentioned earlier that DSLR cameras have an advantage when it comes to lens selection. In this case, the FUJIFILM X-T100 already comes with a 45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens which offers major versatility for shooting a variety of subjects, but the added good news is that you also have the option to change lenses with 26 high-quality zoom and prime lenses. Switching out lenses is super simple with just a press of a button.

I can’t stress the importance of acquiring additional lenses. When I first started taking photos, I didn’t see the significance of them. But once I’ve had the opportunity to shoot on different zoom and prime lenses, I finally understood what a great lens can do for you. I’d recommend starting off with a 50mm or 35mm prime lens that produces amazing depth of field (those background blurry shots) then followed by a wide angle zoom lens such as 10-24mmF4, which is great for landscape and travel photos.

If you’re interested in giving different lenses a try, FUJIFILM has a Try & Buy Program at select retailers nationwide where you can try a lens or camera out for 3 days, before you buy, for free! It’s a fantastic option before investing.

The X-T100 connects seamlessly with any smart device via a built-in Wi-Fi connection to transfer your images in real time. The free FUJIFILM Camera Remote app also allows you to shoot with the camera remotely through your smart device, which makes it super convenient when you’re shooting solo with no one to help! By downloading the photos immediately to my smart phone, I can edit photos real time and send them directly to the print shop in just a matter of minutes!

Believe me when I say you don’t need to lug around a bag full of camera equipment to capture beautiful photos everyday. Whether you’re looking for stunning photography artwork for your own home or simply hoping to capture those everyday moments, I encourage you to get started and get in touch with your creative self!
