DIY :: Valentine’s Naked Cake

by Natalie Ho 2016.02.11

I adore naked cakes. I love the simplicity and elegance it offers and each and everyone has its own character, they’re perfectly imperfect. My sister and cousin gifted a naked cake to Kyle and I as our wedding cake and I absolutely loved it (see more wedding photos here). I’ve been meaning to recreate one as a side project, but the truth is, I’m no baker. I can’t seem to follow baking instructions correctly and much of my baking attempts typically turn into a disaster.

It was the perfect timing when Therese from ARTIESE Fine Art Photography approached me to collaborate on a creative shoot with her. I thought I’d take this opportunity to help those of you who suffer from the same baking issue as me. Don’t fret, I’ve got just the perfect DIY for you, to transform a store bought iced cake, into a beautiful, personalized, naked cake.

DIY :: Valentine’s Test Tube Candy Gifts

by Natalie Ho 2016.02.02

Valentine’s Day is coming up and it’s by far one of my favourite times of the year to cook up some simple DIYs! I’m looking forward to surprising friends with sweets and treats to tell them just how much I love them!

During a stroll through IKEA a couple weeks back, I spotted these RIMFORSA test tubes (comes as a set of 4) and thought they would make the perfect containers for the bags of red and pink candies I picked up at the store. I am such a sucker for IKEA products and absolutely love a good IKEA hack (see my last IKEA hack and what I posted on Instagram). Their items are inexpensive in nature and I can always find a multi-purpose for them.

These glass casings are a great option as elevated Valentines or party favors!

Read further to see how you can assemble your own Valentines Test Tube Candy Gifts.

DIY {Expert Series} :: Floral Arrangement

by Natalie Ho 2014.02.10

I had the pleasure to visit Becky at her floral design studio, Blush & Bloom last weekend. I asked Becky (being the floral expert that she is) whether she could show me (and you) how to arrange a gorgeous floral arrangement. I had so much fun at her by appointment only studio and learned plenty about flowers and how she creates such gorgeous pieces. Did I mention, her studio is so fabulous (I’ll share more photos of her studio soon) and I was also thrilled she surprised me with a Valentine’s colour palette.

Valentine’s DIY :: Heart Shaped Sugar Cubes

by Natalie Ho 2014.02.05

There are just countless Valentine’s Day projects out there that are tremendously cute and simple to try. I decided to kick off Valentine’s Day this year with this simple DIY project – heart shaped sugar cubes, which I had the pleasure to contribute to SheKnows Canada.

I’ve always wanted to make my own sugar cubes and after doing so research, I decided to sweeten up my cup of tea with these super cute, easy, and adorable sugar cubes. You can essentially create any shape and color you want by changing up the mold.

Lifestyle :: 10 things you hope won’t happen on a first date

by Natalie Ho 2014.02.05

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d share a little bit of my past dating wisdom with you gorgeous single ladies out there. I’m no dating expert, but I’ve certainly been on a fair share of them before I met the love of my life :).

Actually, funny enough, my first date with Kyle was probably the most embarrassing of all. My jeans literally ripped in half at my rear end just as I was stepping into a cab with him. Instead of fretting over it, we just laughed it off and continued our night out (though we did stop to get me a new pair of jeans).

DIY :: Heart Stamped Ombre Shirt

by Natalie Ho 2013.02.04

I originally created this DIY Heart Stamped Ombre Shirt for Fashion Parkway. However, soon after this project went live. Fashion Parkway shut down, therefore, it’s unfortunate that I don’t have the original tutorial. The steps of this project is super easy, I’ve outlined it for you here. I hope they make sense even without the step by step photos!
