From My Desk :: Positive Self-Talk & Motivational Mantras

written by Natalie Ho 2017.03.22

I learned early on in my career the positive impact of self-motivation. I remember nearly 10 years ago, I attended a one day workshop on communications. We spent an entire afternoon working through ‘positive self talk’ exercises. And to be honest, at the time, I thought it was silly and never imagined that what I learned that afternoon would be one of the most important lessons in my professional life.

When I began my career as part of a start-up team, it meant that rarely would you be given set assignments, projects, or clients to work on. Being in a start-up environment involved rolling up your sleeves, wearing many hats, drumming up new clients, and often times, figuring out what the heck we were going to do next in order to pay our employees. To succeed in that type of setting, there is no room to be complacent, no time to contemplate, and requires a whole damn lot of self ignition.

I’ve partnered with StickerYou to bring my goalgetting secrets and motivational mantras to life via a collection of Stick With It goodies!

Truth be told, start-up life can be extremely exhilarating and full of surprises but it’s also true that not all days are made great, and often times, requires a little bit of help to stay motivated. Since my communications workshop, I made it a habit to integrate a daily practice of ‘positive self talk’. Whether that meant sending myself a written reminder on post-it notes or running through positive statements in my head, it has been a secret ingredient to my continued success.

Inspired by my own positive self talk statements, such as “work hard, play hard” and “do what you love and you’ll never work”, I found several collections of templates via Shutterstock and decided to transform them into elevated office accessories. I created a variety of magnets, decals, and stickers by uploading the image files via StickerYou. The website allows you to further customize each page and choose what size and products you’d like to produce. It was super simple and I absolutely loved how everything tuned out!

The Removable Clear Vinyl stickers are a fantastic option. I used them to customize candles and my phone case! If you print these on white backing, they also make a great wine or champagne bottle label – I mean, that’s a source of motivation, right? 🙂

I also thought it would be a great idea to spread my positive self talk secret with a few friends that can use a little help, hence I assembled a DIY Girlboss Motivation Mantra Box for each of them packed with notebooks, magnets, candles, and extra stickers! Afterall, the best source of motivation aside from yourself is from others!

You too, can create my Stick With It collection of mantras (alongside many others) by visiting the StickerYou website, use promo code NatalieStickWithIt17 to receive 25% off your entire order until April 15, 2017!

I encourage you to practice positive self talk daily and surround yourself with positive messages!
