Lifestyle :: Give A Sh!rt with Value Village

by Natalie Ho 2016.06.24

Earlier this week (June 21), as part of the Rethink Reuse Campaign, Value Village took over Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto with this art installation to kick off their International #GiveAShirt event. The primary objective of this is to spread a very important message – to create public awareness on our clothing footprint and our impact on the environment. Together, we can collectively make a difference by simply considering making our next new t-shirt a thrifted or reused one.

I am personally a big supporter when it comes to recycling and reusing clothing items. As seen in many of my previous DIY projects, I love transforming pieces of clothing and shoes I already own into new wardrobe items. This is a great way to reduce the pollution generated by the clothing industry. I hope you’ll join me and Value Village in creating awareness on the Give A Sh!rt campaign.

DIY :: Outdoor {thrifted} Floral Garland

by Natalie Ho 2014.06.17

Greeting you today with this fun DIY project perfect for this nice warm weather. I originally created this DIY Outdoor Floral Garland for my appearance on The Marilyn Denis Thrift Store Show Down a couple of weeks back. I decided to incorporate this simple and affordable project into my own outdoor space. I love the fact that it adds so much colour during the day and when lit up at night, it is so cozy!

DIY :: Thrift Store Show Down {The Marilyn Denis Show}

by Natalie Ho 2014.06.04

So happy to be sharing this post with you all today! Earlier this week, I was invited to appear on The Marilyn Denis Show for a SUPER fun segment – DIY Thrift Store Showdown. Where myself and Amy from LoveOnSunday were asked to shop at our favourite Thrift Shop, Value Village to create a whole space for under $500 (including DIY supplies). I decided to create an Outdoor Garden Oasis with my thrifted item and the results were fantastic! Every single item in my vignette was 100% thrifted and I came in totally below budget!

I’m so pleased to say that I WON the first ever DIY Thrift Store Challenge on the show and came in at less than $250!

DIY :: The Perfect Cut-Off Denim Shorts

by Natalie Ho 2013.06.17

Hi there! Happy Monday! It’s finally feeling a little wee bit more like summer in Toronto. Thought I’d start your summer off with this super easy DIY project. Definitely a project that you can make use of and I bet you also have all the materials at home ready for it!

One of the most worn items in my closet during the summer are denim shorts. I’ve got them in all shades of blue and different hem lines. Originally I was inspired to make my own denim dress from this post a week ago. I had big plans to find a men’s denim shirt and transform it to a denim dress but no luck at the Thrift Shop over the weekend. However, I was able to find a pair of jean overalls instead (surprisingly also fit me like a glove) and decided to transform them into this season’s overall/shortall trend (see here and here).
