DIY :: Giant Crepe Rose

by Natalie Ho 2014.07.22

Bonjour! I’m so excited to share a glimpse of a special project I worked on over the weekend with Shop for Jayu! When Sally asked Marla, Angelic, and I to a part of Shop for Jayu’s Fall/Winter 2014 look book, I was beyond ecstatic. The most exciting part about this project was not only being able to work with a super talented team of creative people, but Sally also wanted each one of us bloggers to create our own concepts and incorporate elements of our style and blog into each shot.

Of course my main focus was to include a fun DIY project for each the looks I came up with. Sharing with you today is my one of my three conecpts – “Romantic Rose Garden”. I really wanted to keep everything simple, but exaggerate the shot with this DIY giant crepe rose, creating an surreal romantic moment. I’ve seen this paper flowers many times, and have always wanted to make a giant one, this was the perfect opportunity.

DIY :: {Built-In} Chalkboard/Blackboard Art

by Natalie Ho 2014.07.02

For those of you who celebrated Canada Day yesterday, I hope you had a nice a relaxing day! I took Monday off as well and made it an extra long weekend and managed to catch a lot of vitamin D out in cottage town. I had such a great time! To my America friends, I hope you will be able to enjoy your upcoming Fourth of July weekend as well!

Apologies for not posting this DIY {Built-In} Chalkboard tutorial earlier, I know that I had mentioned it in this post a couple of weeks back, but here it is! I have very high ceilings at home and have been wanting to welcome my guests by my front entrance with a big piece of art for quite some time. However, finding a frame or a canvas about 6 ft tall can be quite challenging. Therefore, I decided to create a DIY built-in chalkboard for some doodling by painting directly on the wall and adding some simple trim border as the frame.

DIY :: Outdoor {thrifted} Floral Garland

by Natalie Ho 2014.06.17

Greeting you today with this fun DIY project perfect for this nice warm weather. I originally created this DIY Outdoor Floral Garland for my appearance on The Marilyn Denis Thrift Store Show Down a couple of weeks back. I decided to incorporate this simple and affordable project into my own outdoor space. I love the fact that it adds so much colour during the day and when lit up at night, it is so cozy!

DIY (and giveaway) :: Outdoor Planter {with President’s Choice}

by Natalie Ho 2014.06.06

Happy weekend! The weekend has officially arrived and boy am I glad. This week was a whirlwind with the start of my week LIVE on the Marilyn Denis Show (you can see my full segment on how to create a gorgeous outdoor garden oasis for less than $300), then followed by a week’s of business conferences. I can’t wait to kick back and relax this weekend, I think I deserve it … and so do you!

To kick off the weekend, I’m sharing a simple DIY project that you can work on – a DIY Outdoor Planter. Recently, I had the pleasure to learn all about planters and gardening with Peter Cantley, the garden guru and Vice-President, Floral & Garden and Loblaw Companies Ltd. I’m not sure about you, but I kill about any plant that lives, so I was so glad to get some expert advice on planting my own mini garden with some products from President’s Choice (be it floral or edibles). Peter taught us how to create a simple, yet attractive planter using three simple ingredients – Thrillers, Fillers and Spillers.

DIY :: Thrift Store Show Down {The Marilyn Denis Show}

by Natalie Ho 2014.06.04

So happy to be sharing this post with you all today! Earlier this week, I was invited to appear on The Marilyn Denis Show for a SUPER fun segment – DIY Thrift Store Showdown. Where myself and Amy from LoveOnSunday were asked to shop at our favourite Thrift Shop, Value Village to create a whole space for under $500 (including DIY supplies). I decided to create an Outdoor Garden Oasis with my thrifted item and the results were fantastic! Every single item in my vignette was 100% thrifted and I came in totally below budget!

I’m so pleased to say that I WON the first ever DIY Thrift Store Challenge on the show and came in at less than $250!

DIY :: A Unique Mother’s Day Gift {Soup Bowl Candle + Matching Floral Blouse}

by Natalie Ho 2014.05.04

Mother’s Day is just a week away! I find that moms are the hardest to shop for (at least the the case with mine!). Why not combine the best of both worlds by shopping for something stylish but also personalizing your gift by DIY-ing something special for her too?

I decided to tackle a unique project for Mother’s Day. I found this pretty floral blouse at Joe Fresh and was immediately inspired to use the floral print to personalize a gift for mom. I remember a few weeks back I stumbled upon a candle in a ‘soup blow’-like canister. I loved it and haven’t really seen anything like it in stores. Therefore, I proceeded to create my own DIY Soup Bowl Candle using the print from the blouse as my Mother’s Day Gift to Mom.

Home Decor :: Guest Room Re-modelling Essentials

by Natalie Ho 2014.03.31

Happy Monday! The sun is shining warm and bright today but it’s too bad I’m still battling with my cold! I had big plans to finish up my Guest Room Re-modelling project over the weekend, but it just didn’t happen. Our Guest Room is pretty much the only room left in the house to do any type of drastic make over (though I’m going to continuously update the decor in my house, it’s importantly to keep up to date!).

My vision for the Guest Room was to create an inviting nautical ambiance, think – soft blue hues and anchor/sea side accented decorations. The inspiration came from the set of 6 nautical themed prints (mine are in black outline) I acquired from this shop from Etsy. I then pretty much evolved all the other components around these 6 prints. I decided to pick a cottage style, plaid bedding set accented with powder blue cushions and a throw for the Spring/Summer season. In the Fall/Winter, the plaid bedding set will transform nicely with a fur or knit throw and even reds for the holiday season. A plaid print is extremely versatile.

DIY :: Black & White Wordphrase Art

by Natalie Ho 2014.03.10

Greetings! Another DIY art project to share with you today! I purchased a couple of smaller gallery canvases when I went hunting for a large one during my last DIY painting. I’ve been thinking about what to do with it until I saw this amazing piece ($4,000 which is now sold out) of artwork by Kal Barteski, her work is truly amazing!

DIY :: Marble {slab} Vanity Tray

by Natalie Ho 2014.02.26

ello! Today, I’m sharing a super easy and chic home decor DIY project with you. I first saw this DIY marble (slab) vanity tray project a month ago on Style at Home and totally wanted to make one myself. Lo and behold when I was randomly browsing in the home section of Winners a few weeks ago, I came across this pastry marble slab and it completely jogged my memory!

It took me a whole 10 minutes (mainly because I was waiting for the glue to dry), and I’m a little bit obsessed with the final product.
