DIY :: Valentine’s Naked Cake

by Natalie Ho 2016.02.11

I adore naked cakes. I love the simplicity and elegance it offers and each and everyone has its own character, they’re perfectly imperfect. My sister and cousin gifted a naked cake to Kyle and I as our wedding cake and I absolutely loved it (see more wedding photos here). I’ve been meaning to recreate one as a side project, but the truth is, I’m no baker. I can’t seem to follow baking instructions correctly and much of my baking attempts typically turn into a disaster.

It was the perfect timing when Therese from ARTIESE Fine Art Photography approached me to collaborate on a creative shoot with her. I thought I’d take this opportunity to help those of you who suffer from the same baking issue as me. Don’t fret, I’ve got just the perfect DIY for you, to transform a store bought iced cake, into a beautiful, personalized, naked cake.

DIY :: New Year’s Eve Party

by Natalie Ho 2015.12.30

I love hosting a great party at home. Though this year, we’re (finally) hitting the town to celebrate New Year’s Eve with some friends, I thought I’d cook up some inspiration for those of you who will be celebrating with friends at home.

I created a super easy DIY floral backdrop (paper flowers made with love by Paper & Peony leftover from my wedding) and Pinata Balloons hung overtop that’s just perfect as a photo backdrop.

At midnight, puncture the balloons for some celebratory confetti fun! Read further to see more photos!

Entertaining :: Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

by Natalie Ho 2015.12.23

It’s two days before Christmas and I’m officially signing off until next week. I hope you’ll find time to enjoy the company of family and friends! The holiday season is best when paired with great food and drink. If you’re still scrambling for some last minute entertaining ideas, take note from this festive tea party session I had the privilege to host with some of my favourite insta-babes!

It was an afternoon of sipping on decadent loose leaf teas from Sloane Tea (also a great gift idea) and munching on delicious french macarons handmade by the talented Stephanie of Petit Nuage. We were also surprised with handwritten, personalized mugs and plates from Donna, who also designed the typography on my beautiful wedding thank you cards.

This Christmas, try your hand at throwing a modern, yet cozy Christmas Afternoon Tea Party with elements of DIY and the best treats in town as special as your family and friends!

DIY :: Bright Office Update {Behr Paint}

by Natalie Ho 2015.09.23

I was provided product by BEHR to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I was totally surprised when Kyle said yes to letting me update our office space with a fresh coat of BRIGHT paint. Let’s just say I may not have exactly disclosed to him that I was thinking pink! I instantly fell in love with Pagoda, the fuschia pink colour featured as part of BEHR 2016 Color Trends. I had to get my hands on it and was willing to make any paint project work with this. The office was the perfect opportunity!

Since Pagoda (T16-02) is quite dramatic, I really didn’t want to use too much of it, but rather as a happy accent. I decided to paint two side panels behind our custom DIY shelving unit and really thrilled with the final result! To be honest, I am the one who primarily occupy our home office space, therefore I was ecstatic that Kyle agreed to let me put my own stamp on it. A little pink never hurts a creative soul, right?!

Today, I’m excited to share not only my September BEHR DIY Expert Paint project with you but privileged to also share the projects from my fellow BEHR paint ambassadors AND a fabulous BEHR Paint Giveaway! Be sure to check them all out and enter the giveaway at the end of this post.

Four lucky winners will receive three gallons of BEHR 2016 Color Trends Paint! Yay! Best of luck!

BEHR Paint Project - DIY Painted Outdoor Patio Bench

DIY :: Painted Outdoor Patio Bench

by Natalie Ho 2015.08.25

Hello! So hard to believe that September is just around the corner! With Summer drawing to an end, I’ve been spending time enjoying these last warm days and also frantically trying to complete the list of “to-dos’ I had set out long before. Glad to say I had a successful weekend accomplishing both!

We have two outdoor balconies in our townhome, one on the main level where we do most of our lounging and BBQ-ing and the second is set outside our bedroom suite, which we don’t occupy too often, but it’s a great private outdoor space for cozy nights. When we moved in two years ago, we placed our old patio set from our condo terrace onto the top floor balcony. After suffering from two winters, the patio set endured some harsh weather and it was time to get it some TLC again. With the cooler weather ahead, I thought it’d be a great time to transform our top floor balcony into a Fall oasis by first giving our patio bench and table a new fresh coat of paint and dressing the rest of the space with comfy cushions and snuggly blankets.

Alas! I’m thrilled to reveal my first paint project as one of BEHR Paint’s DIY Experts with this newly upgraded outdoor patio bench!

DIY Varathane Challenge :: Marquee Sign Charcuterie Board (on wheels!)

by Natalie Ho 2015.08.11

It’s been sometime since I worked on a home DIY project. I’m extra excited about the reveal of today’s project! I hope you guys really like it! I was asked to participate in an fun Varathane #LoveYourWood challenge alongside 9 other talented bloggers to show just exactly how creative a can of Varathane wood stain can get.

We were tasked to create an original wood project using a surprise box of items and a can of wood stain. I obviously couldn’t turn down the challenge! After racking my brain for days, I finally came up with the idea of creating an oversized, moveable charcuterie board! Charcuterie boards and tables are fabulous, but sometimes, those things can be so elaborate and hard to move around from one end to the table to the other. Therefore, I added an element of function but securing small caster wheels to the bottom of my creation! In addition to amping up the functionality, I also wanted to add an extra element of design. Inspired by lit up marquee signs, I drilled holes through the board to create the illusion of a lit up marquee sign – thoughts!?

I hope you like this DIY oversized moveable marquee sign charcuterie board!

I’d really appreciate if you can cast a vote for me on the Helping You Finish Facebook Page to help me win a grand prize of $2500 and you can win Varathane prizes too! I promise I will share bigger and even better DIY projects in the future!
